Life and Love go on, Let the Music play
In 2024, thirty years after the release of the first American Recordings, Def Americans Johnny Cash Tribute will bring the most imaginative songs from this iconic series to the stage.
Singer Elco Weitering: "The American Recordings caused a revaluation of artists who can and dare perform their own and others' work in a fragile acoustic version. But it has to be authentic - honest and sincere, otherwise it won't work. 'From the gut.', as Johnny would put it."
The songs that The Man in Black knew how to perform with such love and conviction are revived on stage by Def Americans Johnny Cash Tribute. In doing so, the band manages to hit the swing, atmosphere and rebellion of a performance by the legendary American outlaw amazingly well.
The heyday of the 1970s was now far behind him, when with the release of the American Recordings, the forgotten Cash became a relevant artist again in one fell swoop. The collection of soberly performed acoustic songs recorded under the direction of producer Rick Rubin is therefore seen as the crowning glory of his work. The friendship and collaboration between Rubin and Cash would last until Johnny's death in 2003.
