Henriette Bosmans is a Dutch composer who had an extraordinary life in the early 20th century. Johannes Brahms died when Henriette was 2 years old. Brahms was not seen as innovative in his time, perhaps because, like Henriette, he could be greatly inspired by composers before him. Along the almighty Bach of which Carlos Micháns made a beautiful arrangement for quartet to the last B in the programme. Benjamin Britten looked with admiration at the works of Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. The sound world Britten sets can be beautifully set against the backdrop of an English landscape.
