Mixed singing society Vivente
With Mozart's Requiem and Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna, Venlo-based mixed vocal society Vivente will commemorate the victims of the first Allied bombing of Venlo on 13 October, exactly eighty years ago on that date.
October and November 1944 saw the blackest pages of Venlo's World War II history. The Allies wanted to prevent German reinforcement and supply on the western bank of the Meuse by destroying the bridges. These bombings killed around 300 civilians, part of the old city centre was destroyed. Mozart wrote the Requiem, his last composition, during his sickbed in late 1791. It was completed after his death by composer friends. Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna was written more than 200 years after Mozart's death.
