Spanish Passion
Spain has always had a very distinctive musical tradition. This programme features music from 1626 (Correa de Arauxo) to 1935 (Turina), choosing repertoire in which the typical Spanish sound is immediately recognisable. Besides "native" composers such as Correa de Arauxo, Pla, Soler, de Falla and Turina, the programme also includes music by two great Italians who wrote their best work under the influence of Spanish culture and music: Boccherini and Scarlatti. Moreover, the latter was the teacher of Soler, who is best known for a compelling Fandango for harpsichord. This Fandango has been specially adapted for strings and harpsichord for this programme.
