De Maaspoort's new theatre programme was announced today. Artists and shows such as Herman van Veen, Mega Mindy, Tineke Schouten, Youp van 't Hek, Zappelin Live!, Her Majesty, Paul de Leeuw, Nederlands Dans Theater 2, André Kuipers and the big musical productions Jesus Christ Superstar, Mamma Mia!, Grease, Piaf and De Hospita are coming to Venlo.
Last year, De Maaspoort launched the Youth Fund 'Goed voor elkaar'. Thanks to this fund, children up to 12 years old could go to the theatre for free. "This will remain so next theatre season too," says Leon Thommassen, director-director of De Maaspoort, proudly. "Thanks to this initiative, we were able to give 5,000 children free tickets last season. We hope this number will grow further with this new theatre programme."
The new theatre programme consists of over 200 performances. We managed to secure the award-winning performance by Hadewych Minis. Director Theu Boermans returns with a cheeky adaptation of Mozart's Zauberflöte. Van der Laan and Woe of the TV success 'Even to Here' are featured and Jamai Loman comes with an ode to Elton John. Limburg talent Suzan Seegers plays the lead role in PIAF.
New programmer Wieke Vrijhoef, is proud, her first programming is complete. "Of course, we will first start this summer with the spectacle musical 'It was Sunday in the South' in open-air theatre the Maze. For the first time, we are producing a big musical ourselves in cooperation with Toneelgroep Maastricht. This fits in with our vision as an organisation to make more ourselves or work together with makers. We also seek more connection in the city, together with partners we reach a larger and more diverse audience." says Vrijhoef.
On Monday 22 May, the new programme will be festively presented during the annual PREVIEWnight. The PREVIEWnight can also be followed for free via livestream. From Tuesday 23 May, ticket sales for Friends of De Maaspoort will start. Free sales start Tuesday 30 May at 16.00h.
