Due to stricter measures, the Sinterklaas activities in De Maaspoort cannot continue. As an alternative they offer the possibility to bake gingerbread cookies at home with Bakker Jos Lamers and Sinterklaas. Part of the proceeds of the gingerbread packages goes to Stichting Kinderfeesten Venlo. And extra fun: one of the packages contains a golden ticket for four people for the Sinterklaas spectacle in 2021.

Unfortunately, the annual traditions in the Netherlands also have to be put on hold because of the current measures to contain the Coronavirus. In the context of thinking outside the box, De Maaspoort sought cooperation with the Venlo-based confectionery Lamers. Event manager Veronique Haenen: "It is in our DNA to think in terms of possibilities. We've had a good working relationship with Showorkest Harmonie Fortissimo and Stichting Kinderfeesten Venlo for years, so we're really sorry that the Sinterklaas spectacle and the annual moment after the arrival of St. Nicholas in Venlo can't go ahead. In order to offer the children something nice, we have developed the pepernoten baking package in collaboration with the bakery Jos Lamers."

Guests who originally had tickets for the Sinterklaasspektakel were the first ones to get the opportunity to order the pepernotenpakket. The package includes an instructional video by Sinterklaas and baker Jos Lamers. The gingerbread packages are now available for everyone to order via the website of De Maaspoort for € 5.95 each. Part of the proceeds will go to Stichting Kinderfeesten Venlo. The packets are also for sale at Banketbakkerij Lamers.
